Meticulous planning
'I'm glad it's not the brightest day today.'
'Me too.'
'I don't care personally, at least hot weather means I've got an excuse to swim. But I'm not a vampire.'
'Exactly. I do still enjoy the odd swim, though. Best done once the sun has started to set.'
'Yeah, it's fun. Nix is really starting to enjoy it too.'
'I haven't been swimming in years.'
'I'd like to have a house pool again, at the public one I can't help wondering if I'm swimming in pee.'
'Pff, growing up the best I could manage was a tiny paddling pool with ice cold water from the hose pipe.'
'Yeah, I know, I sound like a spoilt brat.'
'Yo, Edward. Glad I saw you.'
'Hello, Stanley.'
'I'm gonna get right to it, we got another situation. It's Tate.'
'What did he do this time?'
'...Threatened Nyla with a gun.'
'Wait, what?'
'What the fu-'
'*cough cough*'
'...Yeah. He wanted to know Roxxi's address. Nyla said he was all set to shoot her 'til Feli walked in.'
'Oh, that's horrible...'
'So what happened then?'
'He left, sayin' he'd be back in a day to ask again, and if she still says no, he'll kill her.'
'We ought to take her somewhere safe.'
'Or take Tate out.'
'I can't disagree with that sentiment.'
'I'd say more, but here's not the best place to do so.'
'Yeah. She's gone to a friend's place right now. Her boss, to be exact. She's safe there.'
'Good, I'm glad to hear it.'
'I'm doin' somethin' about it. I already called my family.'
'Ah, I see...'
'That's another reason I wanted to see you. To ask your opinion. I know you ain't gonna approve of the, well, extreme measures they sometimes go to.'
'No, you're right about that.'
'"Extreme measures"?'
'...Look, I don't gotta spell it out for you. They're Italian. They're involved in... uh, crime. You can work it out for yourself.'
'What, your family's the mafia or something?'
'...I was tryin' to be subtle.'
'...I thought I was just being kinda racist.'
'Well, you were on the money. There's plenty of other Italians not involved in that, after all. Just not the Gallos.'
'...So your entire family is made up of criminals?'
'Most of 'em.'
'That... kind of explains you.'
'...So I need to make sure what you guys are okay with. If the two cops here ain't gonna arrest my ass over this anyway.'
'Honestly I feel like if I try, you'd choke me to death with a fart.'
'...Sorry 'bout that.'
'Oh, Stanley.'
'You certainly know how to make a first impression! But no, seriously, Ellis may be of a different opinion, but for me personally I feel like I'm already a corrupt cop just by knowing about Tate and being in a force he buys off. So I might as well be corrupt in a way that benefits Tate's victims and pretend this conversation never happened.'
'No, I agree. I hate the fact that he prevents me from doing my job properly. I feel like my conscience is clear if I do what I can to protect people he's hurt. And by ignoring this, I can do that. He deserves all he gets.'
'Thanks, guys. I appreciate it.'
'As for your family... I'm afraid I can't approve of outright torture, even if it is Tate.'
'Yeah, I guess it'd be wrong.'
'Feel free to send 'em over to Devil's Port once they're finished with Tate.'
'They'll arrive today and probably stick around for a few days. You can talk to them yourself if you're serious.'
'Too right I am.'
'Great. I'll pass it on.'
'Tell them to do what it takes to stop Tate from trying to hurt Nyla. They can beat him into a pulp. Just make sure they don't go too far.'
'Okay. I'll tell 'em to be restrained. Nari gets a bit too into it.'
'As well as that.. How can we guarantee Nyla's safety?'
'Does Tate know where Nyla's boss lives?'
'I'm pretty sure he don't.'
'Alright, so Nyla should stay there for as long as possible, and maybe someone else picks Felicia up from school.'
'Honestly, we're wonderin' if we should send 'em both to her ma's place for a coupla weeks. It's in another city.'
'That sounds like a good idea. I don't want to fear monger, but there is the possibility that Tate knows who Nyla's friends are, Edward included, and might try to find out Nyla's location through stalking. It's best to prepare for the worst.'
'You're right. I don't wanna take any risks.'
'I'm really sorry it's come to this. Nyla's so nice... I'm ashamed to be related to that foul man.'
'Tell me about it. Seems like we can't go one day without him doing something else messed up...'
